This is great. 85 comments so far and there were 8 this morning. That tells me it is evoking a range of emotions which is what art should do. Art is a very subjective thing. Some people love Picassos' abstracts, I personally don't. So he got a DD. I say good for him.
Don't forget, DD is not a reward. Its a feature (Read the link) [link] "How does this get a DD?" is a good question, though. If this has a caption as to why this has a DD, there will be an answer. Unfortunately, dA did not give a reason why this image gets a DD. -_-
OMG! I can't believe the crappy comments some people posted on your image! I hope you're not paying attention to them, petty comments that seem to be born of jealousy and most of them from people who should definitely work at bettering their art instead of spitting on other people's work.
This is a great portrait, great expression and light, it has a alot of personality. Congrats on the DD!
The author didn't ask for anyone to critique this image. Besides, when some people comment saying that their images would deserve a DD a lot more then this one or ask rudely "why did this image get a DD?" and say nothing that would help the author make his image better, it's definitely not critique, it's either jealousy or rudeness. Never said anyone had to be a good photographer to critique one, but one definitely has to know what a critique is before pretending to make one.
Besides, all those comments asking why this received a DD shouldn't be asked to the author of the image, he didn't ask for this DD it was given to him and doesn't know anymore then you do why it did get one.
I'm sorry but how can people say this is unattractive? There is nothing remotely unattractive or wrong with this photo, it's beautifully shot and I think it's fantastic. It may not be the typical DD but if you're too ignorant to appreciate this as art and a form of expression then you really shouldn't be on this website.
I don't know why everyone keeps complaining about how much this doesn't deserve a DD. Personally (though this is just my opinion and totally speculation), I think the reason it was chosen is because it shows a side of girls that isn't the most girly (for lack of a better word). I've noticed that a lot of the people who are whining about it are male, and almost every person who complained ended up saying something about how they deserve on if this does. So basically, they're all either sexist pigs who don't want to see pictures of girls who aren't showing off their bodies or just sitting there looking pretty/pouting, or they're being egotistical because they're jealous. I like it just because it's different. Most of the other pictures I've seen of girls/women, they're either just there to look pretty, expressing some deep sorrow (or other things along those lines), or dressed/posing in a suggestive way. This is just simple, goofy, and oddly adorable.
I don't get why people are so against this photo getting a DD. It's a wonderful portrait, full of character. It's actually been awhile since a portrait with a quirky facial expression has gotten a DD, and I think it's refreshing to see something like this.
